How to prolong battery life for laptop? I keep hearing different things.?

I am confused because I heard many contradictions about How to prolong battery life. I know that the batteries die if they pass by a large number of cycles of loading / unloading. I heard one colleague that if the battery is less than 100%, should be allowed to flush to 0 before recharging. However, another colleague said it is wrong to drain the battery when less than 60%. The same person also said to calibrate the battery by leaving your computer automatically stops the power every few months. I also heard someone who is supposed to have your battery when connected, since the laptop continuously recharges the battery rather than using the AC power, but I do not see person at work to do.
